SC collegium decides to upload its decisions on website

In a historic move to usher in transparency, the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, has resolved to go public with all its recommendations to the government on judicial appointments, transfers and elevations to the High Courts and the Supreme Court.

The recommendations will be uploaded on the Supreme Court's official website.

The Collegium will further “indicate” the reasons for which it has decided to recommend or reject names for appointment, transfer or elevation to the High Courts and the Supreme Court.


India and European Union agree to bolster fight against terror and strengthen ties in key areas of trade and security.

India and the European Union today adopted a declaration to counter terrorism as they discussed ways to strengthen their cooperation in key areas of trade and security during the 14th summit between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the top EU leadership in New Delhi.

Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to address Digital Saksharata Abhinandan Samaroh

Digital Saksharata Abhinanadan Samaroh will be addressed by Hon’ Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on October 7, 2017 at IIT Gandhinagar. Pradhanmantri Grameen Digital Saksharata Abhiyan (PMGDISHA) is an integral component of Digital India Initiative of the Government. President to Inaugurate India Water Week 2017

Five Day International event to be attended by 1500 delegates from 13 countries

President Shri Ram Nath Kovind will inaugurate India Water Week – 2017 on October 10, 2017 in New Delhi in the presence of Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Nitin Gadkari and Union Ministers of State for Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal and Shri Dr. Satya Pal Singh.  About 1500 delegates from India and 13 other countries will attend the five day international event. The theme of India Water Week – 2017 is “Water and Energy for Inclusive Growth”.

The 5th edition of India Water Week (IWW) will be celebrated with a multi disciplinary conference and a concurrently running exhibition enriching the theme and showcasing the technologies and solutions available for the areas under deliberation of the meet.  The event will have the following major components:

  • Water, Food and Energy Security – Essential requirement for sustainable development.
  • Water for inclusive Growth
  • Sustainable energy development – Key for all round economic growth.
  • Water and Society

India, Australia to enhance relations; MoU signed on tackling terror

“The meeting is a follow-up to the Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation in Combating International Terrorism and Transnational Organised Crime exchanged between the two sides during the visit of Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to New Delhi in April this year and his talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” the statement said.

Issues related to human trafficking and people smuggling, combating illegal drug trafficking, and sharing information between law enforcement agencies, were also discussed.

The two sides agreed to pursue further the agenda for cooperation in specific areas with meetings of operational joint working groups involving agencies concerned, the statement added.

Under composite schemes traders to pay 1 percent, manufacturers 2 percent and restaurants 5 percent GST; Companies with 1.5 crore rupees turnover to file quarterly returns; Exporters to get refunds of their input credit from 10th of this month; E-Wallet for  getting their refunds from 1st April 2018.

Government has announced major relief in GST for exporters and  small and medium enterprises. The composition threshold limit under GST has been enhanced from 75 lak rupees to one crore. Briefing reporters after GST Council meeting, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that under composite scheme, traders will pay one percent, manufacturers two percent and restaurants five percent.

GST tax payers upto 1.5 crore rupees turnover can now file their return on quarterly basis, in place of monthly basis.  Exporters will start getting refunds of their input credit for the month of July from 10th of October, and for August from 18th of this month. This is an interim arrangement, said Mr Jaitley.

Mr Jaitley said exporters will have e-wallet from 1st April, 2018 for getting their refunds.

The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) has amended the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Insolvency Resolution Process for Corporate Persons) Regulations, 2016 and Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Fast Track Insolvency Resolution Process for Corporate Persons) Regulations, 2017 yesterday. According to theAmended Regulations, a Resolution Plan shall include a statement as to how it has dealt with the interests of all stakeholders, including financial creditors and operational creditors, of the Corporate Debtor.

Two-time champions Ghana began their FIFA Under-17 World Cup campaign with a 1-0 victory over Colombia in a Group A match in New Delhi today. Ghana earned three points from the win.  In the opening Group B match at the D Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, New Zealand came from a goal down to draw 1-1 against Turkey.

International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons awarded this year's Nobel Peace Prize.

  • The Nobel Peace Prize was awarded on Friday to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons, an organisation seeking to eliminate atomic weapons through an international treaty-based prohibition.
  • The Geneva-based ICAN won the USD 1.1 million prize because it "has been a driving force in prevailing upon the world's nations to pledge to cooperate ... in efforts to stigmatise, prohibit and eliminate nuclear weapons," Norwegian Nobel Committee chairwoman Berit Reiss-Andersen said in the announcement.
